There are currently three qualifying types of individuals for this program: Entrepreneurs, Investors and Self-Employed persons. Canada allows these successful persons to immigrate by investing CDN $400,000 for 5 years, interest free, into a Canadian Government guaranteed Immigration Fund. Investors and their family members are given unconditional immigrant visas and are free to live anywhere in Canada.

HOW TO QUALIFY

To qualify as an Investor, you must meet 3 conditions:

• Show that you have significant business experience (see below);
• Have a minimum net worth of CDN$800,000, and have obtained it legally;
• Make a minimum of CDN$400,000 investment.

There are many banks that will lend you the money to invest in the fund, so if that is an option you are interested in, you would need only approximately CDN$130,000 as a down payment.

Investor Immigrants will also be required to earn at least 35 points on the Investor/Entrepreneur Point Assessment Grid.

2 WAYS TO QUALIFY FOR BUSINESS EXPERIENCE AS INVESTORS

Business Manager. You must have managed at least 5 full-time employees per year for at least two out of the five past years.

This is a significant advantage compared to the Entrepreneurial requirements for business experience, and is a fairly easy criteria for most businessmen to meet.

Owner / Manager. This qualification classification requires that you have managed a business and owned shares in that business in two of the last five years, that meets two of the following criteria:

• Management of at least five full-time employees (or full-time equivalent, defined as 1,950 hours per year) per year;
• Management and Control of Equity of a qualifying business (see Table A).

These figures are based on 100% ownership of the business.
Those with less equity must divide the stated figures by the percentage of equity. For example, if you owned 50% of the business, each figure would be doubled (see table B).
